Question: Do we need to 开光 (consecrate) Buddha/Bodhisattva images for veneration on a shrine?

Answer: I recommend you to consecrate it every day with your Dharma practices like chanting, meditating, offering, circumambulation, sharing of merits…

Question: Yes I will do that. But is a formal consecration necessary?

Answer: Not for some, yes for the insecure. There’s no way to know for sure another consecrator is as virtuous and sincere, connected to the Buddha as yourself actually.
