Where Goes Free Enquiry?

Occasionally, I write politely and detailedly to other Buddhist teachers and non-Buddhist authors to ask or comment on certain issues, such as perceived misportrayals of the Dharma on their part. Some of whom are prominent.

Their websites portray them to welcome query emails. But hey… There are no replies in many cases. Makes me wonder if it is that they are able to simply ignore well-meaning emails, or if they have zealous, or rather, irresponsible administrators, who filter and trash these feedback mails.

Can the teachers be so busy that they have absolutely no time to reply? Hey, there is no deadline to reply any way. Or could their egos be too hurt by what is seen as negative feedback to reply? I will never know – because there is no reply. So much for the practice of the cherished Buddhist attitude of welcoming and responding to free enquiry? Like the gadfly that Socrates was, I’ll ask on…  ‘… always fastening upon you, arousing and persuading and reproaching you’ (when I see it appropriate).
