Facebook: Super Short Story (245)

Super Short Story (245): Facebook

Wondering why she was not so happy in contrast,
she didn’t realise she was a victim of the Facebook illusion.

It is an illusion that all her friends post
about everything significant in their lives,
and that they are all doing terrifically well,
because they mostly post only their happy stuff,
while preferring to hide their worries and fears.

Facebook is about what others
want her to know only –
including friends and advertisers.

She didn’t even realise that
she herself co-creates the Facebook illusion,
though she never treated Facebook
as too personal an open diary.

Maybe her friends are also wondering
why they are not so happy in contrast,
not realising they are also victims of the Facebook illusion.

  1. I totally agree with you. I am often deceived, and I am deceiving others as well. And I often squander my time on facebook. Thanks for reminding me that I am the victim.
