Stonepeace (421-430)

[421] If integrity has to be sustained by high rewards, such integrity is not very high in the first place, as high integrity is highly unconditioned by personal reward, while those with high integrity, who are already highly rewarded will readily share their rewards with others in need.

[422] One’s true success comes from
being able to guide others to success;
it does not come from
being able to lord over others with one’s success.

[423] Knowing the rationale for following rules
is more important than just
knowing what are the rules to follow,
as some rules might be irrational,
which makes following them irrational too.

[424] One who does not live up
to the spirit of the precepts
can never observe them perfectly,
even if they are followed to the letter.

[425] Good cannot defeat evil
only when it is not good enough,
while all Buddhas, who are truly pure,
already defeated all maras.

[426] The challenge of
this limited life is to
make it unlimitedly meaningful.

[427] Good leaders lead by
their good examples.

Good followers follow
their good examples.

[428] Be swifter to thank and apologise.
Be slower to criticise and rationalise.

[429] The only real mistake
is to not admit
a real mistake.

[430] If you only use the Dharma
for pointing out others’ mistakes,
instead of for self-reflection,
you will never benefit from the Dharma –
even if you learn it for countless lifetimes.
