Stonepeace (451-460)

[451] We are bound by vice.
We are freed by virtue.

[452] Even having the ‘best’ external critics
is not good enough
if we refuse to be our own ‘worst’ critics
to improve ourselves.

[453] Instead of quickly turning away,
we should look with greater interest
at our adversities and adversaries,
as they are negative manifestations
of our karma and perceptions
that require purification.

[454] Perfect love does not love only the perfect.
Perfect love cares for the imperfect too.

Such is the perfect love of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas,
who love all beings despite their imperfections.

[455] The main problem with those who are as eager to brush off proposed solutions as they are to lament about many problems is that they are not really eager to solve any of them.

[456] The more you blame yourself
for a fault without resolving it,
the more you affirm that fault.

The more your affirm that fault,
the more you blame yourself
for that fault without resolving it.

[457] Without resolution to seek it,
there will be no solution.
With resolution to seek it,
there will be a solution.

[458] The aspects of your everyday life,
where you practise the least Dharma in,
are seldom the parts that need it less;
but the very ones that need it more.

[459] If your motivation is right
but you have forgotten so,
just mindfully refresh it.

If your motivation is wrong
but you have realised so,
just mindfully reset it.

[460] Imprisonment for exploitation
should not be mistaken as
protection or welfare.
