Having realised he was wrong to have blamed her, to the extent of causing their breakup, he uttered, &#8216;&#8230; my tragedy was that I loved words more than I loved the woman who inspired me to write them.&#8217; I thought this is a terrific example of clinging to a symbol (the manuscript) at the expense of missing the substance (the love).
