The film ‘Coming Soon’ explores what could be the real horror behind truly ‘horrible’ movies. That is, what if it’s all for real… since it seems so real? An actress accidentally killed on the set of a movie while acting as a vengeful spirit becomes a real vengeful spirit, haunting those who watch her on the big screen. The idea was that she wants to kill all who ‘demanded’ to film and watch her die. Vengeance that has some logic, though it’s hard to imagine someone with so much rage.<\/p>\n
The show seems to be subtle satire on the horror movie genre, on how movie-goers who come watch this very movie about a movie might be haunted thereafter, about how we willingly pay to scare ourselves silly. It’s also a take on how audiences and thus filmmakers might ‘demand’ so much violence and gore that the immoral act of selling real gore might happen? It’s really eventual that filmmakers realise movie-goers have gotten so numb to horror effects, that the next step to scaring them is to hint of the horrors that might happen offscreen after watching a movie.<\/p>\n
It’s also a cautionary tale on film piracy, as the first haunting occurs when someone tries to film a pirated version of it while watching! Now, wouldn’t it be most ironic if you see a pirated DVD of this movie? You’ve been warned! Beware of the bad karma that might ‘haunt’ you! I think the script is more believable than ‘The Ring’ movies, which were about a restless spirit’s ability to track those who watch a video of how she died in seven days. ‘The Ring’ was a horror movie about a bizarre video, and ‘Coming Soon’ is a horror movie about a horror movie!<\/p>\n
