A passage from Philip K. Dick’s science fiction (graphic) novel and movie ‘A Scanner Darkly’,\u00a0which I arranged into the following stanzas:<\/span><\/p>\n What does a scanner see? I hope it sees clearly, Because if the scanner sees only darkly, Yet, however clearly a scanner does see, What matters more, then,
\nInto the head, down into the heart?
\nDoes it see into me? Into us?
\nClearly or darkly?<\/p>\n
\nbecause I can’t any longer see into myself.
\nI see only murk.
\nI hope, for everyone’s sake,
\nthe scanners do better.<\/p>\n
\nthe way I do,
\nthen I’m cursed and cursed again and will only wind up dead this way,
\nknowing very little and getting that little fragment wrong too.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\nso long as we do not see what it sees clearly,
\nwe still cannot see into ourselves clearly.
\nIt will still be murk.<\/p>\n
\nis that we be the key scanners who see clearly first.
\nI hope, for everyone’s sake,
