The tour guide cum driver we had for the temple pilgrimage trip admitted to us on the very first day, that he is a Christian; not a Buddhist. We were a little appalled at first, but he was professional, and assured us that because he does not know much about Buddhism or the places we are going to visit, he had arranged for proper guides at the respective temples to guide us when we reach them.<\/p>\n
The guided tours turned out to be much better than we expected, as the guides (who included monastics and volunteers) were very knowledgeable in the Dharma. They even made special provisions for us, though our group of four was small. Half of the time, the guide-driver followed us. It was heartening to see the guide being open-minded and humbly guided along with us, as he got to learn more about the Dharma.<\/span> And yes, as he was professional, he didn’t risk ‘upsetting’ us by proselytising to us, his customers!
