There is a hot drama serial on TV that just ended its run. I’m not really a follower of dramas because I’m too impatient to follow the multiple twists and turns…. even though that’s the way real life often is. So, as a disclaimer, I don’t really know what the fuss is about. There was a big uproar among viewers after the last episode was screened – as many were unhappy over the apparently bittersweet ending, that they found to be more bitter than sweet. In the papers, an interviewed viewer said that it was a letdown because much time was invested in following the series, while the scriptwriter felt it was realistic, though regret was also expressed at not having pleased the viewers adequately.<\/p>\n

At the risk of offending hardcore fans, I find all these quite amusing. How so? The drama, with a mostly larger than life dramatism, is not real life, while it was taken too seriously by many viewers. However, the drama does reflects the ironies of real life – because life does not always dish us sweet treats as expected – just as it did not dish out a sweet enough ending for the viewers! The disgruntled viewers should thus reflect on their ability to take in the bitter with\/out the sweet. This could be the biggest lesson they needed to accept and learn from the series, instead of rejecting it. Should entertainment reflect real life or deviate from it. Some would think the latter is better, since entertainment is often for living out fantasies. Fair enough, but shouldn’t a good fantasy bring us back to real life too?<\/p>\n
