\nDuring the animal liberation,
\nhe seemed particularly angry
\nin the box of many crabs.
\nUsing a pair of tongs to hold him
\nwhile snipping off the strings on his claws,
\nI managed to free one of them.<\/p>\n

With the free claw,
\nhe waved it around dangerously,
\nmaking it hard to free the other claw.
\nI put him back into the box,
\nto let him cool down,
\nas I picked up another to free.<\/p>\n

In the middle of the box,
\nhe continued to wave his claw furiously,
\nas if saying ‘Me! Me! Me!’
\nI tried to pick him up again,
\nbut he clung to another crab.
\nDoes he want freedom or think he is going to die?<\/p>\n

I put him back into the box again,
\nto let him cool down,
\nas I picked up another to free.
\nWhen I picked him up later.
\nHe clung to the tongs with the claw,
\neven after the other claw is freed.<\/p>\n

Throughout,
\nI chanted to sooth him…
\n‘Amituofo, Amituofo, Amituofo’
\nHe didn’t let go,
\nthough he could let himself go
\nand go to freedom.<\/p>\n

Not wanting to hurt him,
\nI didn’t shake him off,
\nbut brought him to the water.
\nJust when he had barely touched the water,
\nto my shock and probably his,
\nhis clinging claw came off.<\/p>\n

But it came off…
\nnot the tongs
\nbut his body!
\nHe had clung so tightly
\nthat his body weight tore it off.
\nWhat a lesson on the horror of attachment!<\/p>\n

Because he didn’t free himself from attachment,
\nit didn’t free him from suffering,
\nand he hurt himself.
\nAttachment to senseless fear
\nis senseless, to be feared!
