Below\u00a0is the Japanese version of ‘Call Us By Our True Names’, as featured in the e-newsletter of Japan Vegetarian Society at http:\/\/www.jpvs.org\/v-info\/IVU10\/ivunewsbacknumber200706.htm<\/a>. It made me wonder – since the names of animals are different in various languages, what are the true names? I guess their real names are in the language of moos, caws, grunts and such – because that is the language they speak.<\/p>\n

Yet, when, say, a mother animal calls her young, embedded within their \u00a0sounds is surely also the language of love and compassion. When humans call out the supposed names of animals\u00a0when ordering dishes made\u00a0from them, it is sadly the language of ignorance (of their suffering), apathy, cruelty and\/or greed… instead.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
