A vegetarian Buddhist friend said a Christian friend remarked that animals have no ‘souls’, that it is okay to eat them, while asking her how she knew if plants don’t have ‘souls’ too. Stuck with this ‘argument’, she asked me how to answer. Below was my simple answer, that is beyond refute, whether one believes animals and plants have ‘souls’ or not.<\/p>\n

There are only these four scenarios:<\/span><\/p>\n

(1)<\/strong> If plants and animals don’t have ‘souls’, it’s okay to eat them.
\n(2)<\/strong> If animals have ‘souls’ and plants don’t, we should eat plants.
\n(3)<\/strong> If plants have ‘souls’ and animals don’t, we should still eat plants directly
\nas animals eat a lot more plants in their lifetime before we eat them.
\n(4)<\/strong> If both plants and animals have ‘souls’,\u00a0we should still eat plants directly
\nas animals eat a lot more plants in their lifetime before we eat them.<\/p>\n

In short, whether it is believed that plants or animals have ‘souls’ or not, it is always better to eat plants directly and not eat animals. More on this can be seen at…<\/p>\n
