Irritation : Its Source

Woo: Look at the kid! She’s so irritating!
Hoo: Don’t look then.
Woo: Huh?
Hoo: Unless you are looking to be irritated.
Woo: As in ‘looking for irritation’?
Hoo: Not really, because the cause of irritation is in you!
The kid only presented a condition for it to arise.
It’s time to take responsibility for your feelings!

  1. yup..what an appropriate message! I have someone who is constantly a source of irritation to me…the voice..the stature..the look..everything…I knew it was me..my problem all along…but it didnt’ help one bit…this point on responsibility..gave me a good kick…don’t know why…but i am right now listenning to that same voice…looking at that stature..that look…but am feeling less irritated…by the time..i have sent this..hopefully…gone will be this sense of irrittation…! thank u and Amitabha!

  2. When we detect that someone seems to ‘give us’ suffering while the person’s same behaviour does not affect others adversely, it’s a clear sign that our state of mind is the cause of suffering, not that person, who at most, provided conditions for the cause of irritability within us to bear fruit.

And even if that person ‘gives others’ much suffering, there are still some (e.g. good spiritual practitioners) who will be unaffected because they do not cling to others as the sources of suffering :woot:
