because he guards the Buddha.

because he guards the Dharma.

reminding us to guard the Buddha/dharma too.
Notes: Skanda (Weituo) Bodhisattva images are usually
placed to face the Buddha image in Chinese temples,
while pictures of him grace the end of Sutras.
