Divine Love for All

A Tit for a Tat (33)

Tit: You ought to eat these (pointing to meat dishes on table).
Tat: Why?
Tit: Because God created animals as gifts for us to eat.
Tat: Well, I don’t believe in God.
Tit:
(Astonished) You don’t?
Tat: But that’s not why I’m vegan.
Tit: Why then?
Tat:
Because I believe in non-violence and loving-kindness for all beings.

  1. What do you think of animals eating one another? Are animals being herbivores and carnivores due to their past karma?

  2. Yes, the dietary tendency of animals is a karmic result, though animals with greater sense of compassion can choose to be vegetarian. In the Jataka Tales, the Buddha-to-be as a Bodhisattva lion was a vegetarian!

    1. Wow, this is really encouraging. How a lioness can defy her own “fate” as carnivorous and take herself off the vicious cycle of killing…

It’s a pity that she had a short life, but then, her animal karma probably ended earlier due to her non-involvement in killing and awakening of compassion. Amituofo

  3. I’d like to think that she was a bodhisattva in action, here in our world to show us something! 😀 How else would it be possible for a carnivore to have a natural dislike for blood and meat, when even many of us humans can’t tell the difference between real meat and mock meat! Or perhaps, she had made strong vows in her previous lives never to consume anything that reeked of blood.
