Pain of Vanity

A Tit for a Tat (28)

Tit:
It’s good to be tall because there would be no need to wear high heels (to look taller).
Tat:
It’s not good to be tall because there would be less opportunity to wear high heels (or one might look too tall).
Tit: But don’t you know it’s painful to wear high heels?
Tat:
But don’t you know there’s no real need to wear high heels?

  1. So, does one do by one’s own perception, or according to another’s?
What about the social pressure in some places where people are going for cosmetic surgery to improve their looks in order to land a job offer? Is this about bowing to social pressure for survival?

  2. Why not just go according to real needs? E.g. We need to be presentable, but we don’t need to be vain. Social pressure feels ‘real’ only when we take it personally. I think at the end of the day, real work abilities will keep a worthy job, even if better looks make it easier to land one. But if looks are very seriously in the way, I guess a little help is alright. It won’t be for vanity but more for practicality.

  3. Is it social pressure or self pressure?

If one is comfortable with one’s body, one would not subject oneself to social pressure. If one gets the job based on one’s looks, how genuinely do you think the employer recognised your talent? Probably just satisfying his/her lustful appetite. :dribble:
