We jail and fine those who abuse and torture pets, but isn’t culling harmless animals the extreme form of abuse and torture?
A good friend sent an email asking signatures for an on-going petition to help stop the extermination of all stray cats in Singapore. It is really sad to know that in this age, some still resort to killing to ‘solve’ problems. This supposed problem of overpopulation that the Town Council see is in fact not a problem at all. If it’s any problem, it’s probably us. We complain that they are too many cats but there are 4 million of us humans in this small country. Would we feel too crowded one day and start exterminating each other like the way Town Council proposes for the cats? No, that wouldn’t be humane. But neither is killing innocent cats. Instead of being watchful of our mind, we let it overrun by hatred and delusion. It’s deeply disturbing how some ‘value’ the existence of animal lives. As if breeding and eating some of them is not horrendous enough, we have to kill those that we can’t stand? This superiority phantasm ought to be busted. Imagine if you are in the paws of the cats. How would you feel if you are homeless, and someone kidnaps and slaughters you? Or when someone has a bad day and sees you as a nuisance deserving death, even though you are only minding your own business? What’s worse is when you become sick, what you need is love and care but someone mercilessly orders your execution instead.
Where is the love? Where is the compassion? Where is the conscience? This don’t just happened to cats, but any animals that might have similar situations like the cats. To name a few, crows, rats, chickens, pigs, cows, abandoned hamsters and dogs. Animal karma in Singapore is really bad!
I’m appalled by the way some CHOOSE to treat harmless animals. As such I had signed the petition, I hope you voice your concern as well. Keep the numbers growing, keep the voices heard.
