(How to Create Your Own Time Machine Moments)
In the charmingly creative film ‘The Science of Sleep’,
a guy invents a one-second ‘time travel machine’ to impress a girl.
It’s the most disarmingly cheeky scene I’ve seen in the movies.
‘What are you going to do with one second?’ she asks
‘Well, it just adds up. And life is too precious.’ he replies
Indeed, time matters, second by second.
He pushes a button to return one second backwards in time…
only to push the button to return one second back in time…
only to push the button to return one second back in time…
He later snaps out of it, and I wonder how,
having caught himself in an infinite time loop,
that he theoretically cannot free himself from.
He pushes a button to go one second forward in time…
and plants a surprise kiss on the girl, followed by another similar one,
because the first time is from the future, and the second the present!
The girl asks why he did that,
saying that maybe they have different perspectives on the future.
The guy remarks that the machine is objective!
You can travel to the past via your memories.
And you can only travel to the future at one second per second.
All you have is now to get there, and even that slips away… now.
It is impossible to retain the the past mind
It is impossible to hold on to the present mind
It is impossible to grasp the future mind– The Buddha (Diamond Sutra)
