How You Eat is Part of Your Practice

为培养慈悲心而吃素即是修行一部分。
吃荤又不培养培养慈悲非修行一部分。

Being a vegetarian to nurture compassion makes it part of Dharma practice.
Being a meat-eater while not nurturing compassion is not part of Dharma practice.

单吃素修行不一定好。
修行人吃素一定更好。

Merely being vegetarian does not ensure good Dharma practice.
Those who go vegetarian (with right intentions) will improve their Dharma practice.

This is not to say non-vegetarians cannot practise compassion,
but that it is even better if they train to expand their compassion,
to include the animals they are used to eating by refraining from consuming them.
