I love the moment I can hit the bed, I love going to sleep, I love sleeping, I love having dreams, and I love recalling what dreams I’ve had. I’m enjoying Samsara too much…?! :-O
I’m having insomnia. Oh …. sleepless nights :oups:
Hmmm… but is dreaming really sleeping…
or being awake while supposed to be sleeping?
(For curing insomnia, how about writing down what’s bugging you and analysing it for solutions?)

What I have is middle-of-the-night insomnia. I have no problem falling asleep (most of the time anyway)but I will wake up in the middle of the night and cannot go back to sleep. I guess it happens to some people as they grow older. :oups2:
actually, it reminds me of…
(edited version)
Tit: I fear Death.
Tat: But ‘you’ are not there when you’re dead!
Tit: I guess what I fear is the Dying part!
By the way, just happened to read an article on this,
that our “sleep” actually goes thru several stages,
first 4 stages are non-dreaming,
then we reach the dreaming stage,
afterwhich we start the whole cycle again.
To wake up feeling refresh,
we’d have to reach at least Stage 3, 4 of deep slumber.
However, Stage 2 usually takes up 50%,
and most people wake up before reaching the other stages.
Point of Interest:
If we dream in our sleep,
it is known as Rapid Eyes Movement Sleep,
and if we are attached to a special device,
it is found that our brain would actually be as active as if it was awake.
Now, how awake do we think we are?
And how peaceful can we be when we go to sleep?
What are we holding on to
such that we can’t even let go of
even in our sleep?
If we can’t be asleep when we shd be asleep,
how sure can we be awake when we shd be awake?
Hi Han, if you’re not tired when you wake up in the night, why not do some reading, meditating or chanting? I wish I don’t have to sleep at all (without becoming tired)!
Hi Jetty, dun recall a Titi-Tat episode on that, which is an idea based on this by Epicurus – ‘Death is nothing to us, since when we are, death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.’ It’s an erroneous idea baed on nihilism, the illusion that we are totally gone when dead – because the consciousness goes on. It’s healthy to have some fear of death, so as to spur us to practise the Dharma well to ensure the next rebirth is safe!
Yes, scientists are still confounded by how sleep can really be restful! There are many levels of wakefulness indeed. What we know is we can be more and more awake – till we become fully awakened ones – Buddhas.

Hi Shi’an,
nope, it was an “edited” version using Tit-Tat format (pls dun sue me over copy-right issue), though I can’t recall where I got the idea, don’t think it was focused on nihilism, but on that people fear Death like a child fears the dark, not because of what they know, but what they do not know. Fear of the Unknown, especially for those who do not have a religion, or join one in hope of “having a place, a better one, after Death.
Anyway, sure, it’s good to have a healthy “fear” of Death, but I think it wouldn’t be termed as “fear” but an understanding, that since our present life is not endless, this makes it even more precious. (By the way, I tried to submit a writing thru’ this website, not sure if you’ve receive it?)
thanks for taking the time to clarify 🙂
Death is not fearful, it’s the destination after that’s fearful. Mindful of the Buddha and one will have a peaceful death and blissful thereafter. Amituofo.
If we understand death fully, we would transcend life and death. Meanwhile, since we don’t understand it fully, some healthy fear of what happens then will keep us on our toes, to work harder to understand life and death :-]
(Am clearing my emails. Will get back on your contribution soon! Thanks)
