Perception Of Name

PT: By the way, there’s something so befitting about your name linking with your personality… 似乎时时刻刻都是这么心安平静. This must be what you said about power embedded in names due to the workings of perception.

SA: I don’t think my name had any special meaning when given. Just hope to be able to live up to it, to be 时时安安 (which I am not)… but that would be Buddhahood already!

  1. Reminds me of the story,
    a young lad tortured by his name, “Fool”.
    He was given a chance to change it,
    and decided to go around looking.
    He came across a person called “Joy”
    who had a most miserable life;
    another was called “Rich”,
    who hardly had any to eat.
    And so he went back to his Teacher,
    understanding that a name does not mean anything,
    what matters is the person within.

    The story was one of the many I read, as a child, from the Amar Chitra comic series by Anant Pai. A name I was reminded only recently, when I heard of his passing away. Just wanted to thank him for all the sharing.

  2. Just for sharing. If you remember who Helen Yan is, she says your name means ‘时时出入平安’.

  3. Humanity have different names but the one name that separates all humanity which we all share and ranks no. 1 in the frequency of usage is “I”. Interesting thot, isn’t it?
