Animal-Friendly Celebration?

A Buddhist friend’s wedding invite read,
‘Dear friend, … please let us know if you have special dietary restrictions.’

The last line was quite sad,
because it hinted that it is not going to be a vegetarian meal?

My reply read,
‘Congrats and have fun!
Thanks for the invitation; will be at Wutaishan, the holy mountain of Manjusri Bodhisattva.
(Sincerely hope the celebration will be animal-friendly.)

There was no reply, which seemed ominous…
It still unnerves me,
the idea of Buddhists inviting many Buddhists together
to celebrate with a special meal that come from the deaths of animals.
