If one studies the bardos, there is actually a very good reason why one should not arise hatred. While it is quite a challenge, do you know why malicious spirits or vengeful ghosts are stuck in that stage? Becos they died with anger. In worse cases, anger may plunge one into the hell realm as well. In one of Buddha’s past lives where he practised patience, he had parts of his body chopped up by a King when he was meditating in a forest. The King was furious becos he felt ignored. Had the Buddha arise hatred, either he will be stuck in the ghost realm for incalculable number of eons. Our precious dharma will never have the chance to be realized by him. Therefore the Buddha not only made many sacrifices in pursuit of the truth. Even in his numerous past lives, he has been making alot of sacrifices to lead him to the truths. On many occasions, he laid down his life for sentient beings and one example is the Buddha was born as a monkey who helped animals escape in a fire.
