To a Buddhist friend on disseminating news of a forum (slightly extended):
‘Even though the topic is of universal interest, and relevant to all, my worry is that when death is talked about in general covering many perspectives, Buddhist listeners might feel more lost than enlightened as to which is the truly relevant one.
I understand why Buddhist labels can’t be used so much in public talks meant for those of all religions, even if most ideas shared are Buddhist in nature. But my considerations are beyond. E.g. If I’m a not so strong a Buddhist and benefit greatly from the forum, I might end up having great and occasionally misplaced confidence in all medical personnel in general.
One day, I might encounter a doctor of another faith, who teaches me non-Buddhist perspectives on death…. and because he doesn’t use religious labels too, and because I don’t know any better, and if the views are skewed from Buddhist perspective of realities of death, it could be spiritually problematic. This is why www.TheDailyEnlightenment.com carries only activities that openly use Buddhist labels.
