Super Short Story #333: Scare
He thanked instead of scolding her,
for the truly unexpected ‘scare’ —
her sudden entrance and loud ‘boo!’
while he was working all alone.
Because it made him realise
that it is really possible to,
despite a ‘natural’ reaction
of a physical spike of spine-chill,
to have no follow-up mental fear or anger.
There is always a gap,
for us to choose our responses mindfully,
instead of following our habits unmindfully.
We can choose how we feel and respond.
