Hand-Me-Downs

My offered re-translation:

新阿大 New for the eldest
旧阿二 Old for the second
破阿三 Torn for the third
补阿四 Patched for the fourth

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

(Painting: 豐子愷 Feng Zikai)

P: But the fourth child may feel less privileged if that goes on prolonged?
S: So it’s up to the parents to educate the younger ones on why it’s noble to make do with less.

A good parent would also educate the older ones to take care of their stuff, so that they can be handed down in better condition. I’m okay with hand-me-downs as I already wear my clothes all the way, even now – from new to old to torn to patched!
