Food As Medicine

Advice for a relative whom I meet once a year, who had five heart-related surgeries, who still feels that not eating whatever he pleases would be to let himself down (对不起自己) – ‘Eating whatever you please is what really let yourself down – so far.’ He was at a loss of words for what to say.

When he lamented of how many kinds of medicine he has to consume daily for his heart condition, I commented that the food he consumes daily is the first and foremost medicine, that if he gets this wrong, no extra medical medicine can make things right. Again, he was speechless. Literal food for thought… Before leaving, I got him to agree be more mindful with what he eats. Yay!
