Stonepeace (21-30)

[21] If you only count your ‘cursings’,
you will never be happy.
If you only count your blessings,
you will never be happier.


[22] Friendship arises from friendliness,
which true befrienders always have,
even when the befriended lacks it.


[23] How can those who are
not even worth their words
worth much in their actions?


[24] The good make you feel
good for good reasons,
and bad for good reasons.

The bad make you feel
good for bad reasons,
and bad for good reasons.


[25] Some just learn more and more,
and practise less and less.
The more you learn,
the more you should practise the learnt,
or nothing has really been learnt.


[26] As long as unenlightened,
we all suffer from mental illnesses,
being afflicted with greed, hatred and delusion
to various degrees at various times.
May the less afflicted help the more afflicted.


[27] Harsh critics are sometimes the best
for awakening the severely deluded.
The first are only as harsh as
the latter’s inability to accept harsh reality.


[28] The slowest way to fix a problem
often begins by looking
for a quick fix that does not exist.


[29] How can the thankless
with too little gratitude
ever have enough?

How can the prideful
with too little remorse
ever be better?


[30] Good leaders remind followers of possibilities.
Good followers remind leaders of possibilities.

Poor leaders remind followers of limitations.
Poor followers remind leaders of limitations.
