assume they already know much
about what they do not know at all.

does not mean
you should do any evil.

That you should do good
does mean
you can do much good.

[174] The egoistic subscribe only to praise,
especially to destructive flattery,
thus increasing egoism further.

The humble subscribe more to blame,
especially to constructive criticism,
thus increasing humility further.

[175] Do not mistaken fear for respect,
for beneath might be resentment.
Do not mistaken obedience for compliance,
for beneath might be rebellion.

[176] If you are not defending
the truth with wisdom,
you are probably betraying
your ego with delusion.

[177] If you do not learn some now,
you will not know
there is more to learn later.

If you do not practise some now,
you will not know
there is more to practise later.

[178] The Dharma is first for upholding,
for self-reflection,
before holding it up to others
for their reflection.

犯戒能忏即可。
戒不持更易犯,
不如持戒少犯。

To observe precepts without breaking them is not easy,
but having broken them, one can practise repentance.
Since to not observe precepts is easier to break them,
one might as well observe precepts to break them less.

[180] There are new words
but no new truths,
other than new truths
about those new words.
