Stonepeace (531-540)

[531] Compassion is always far from perfection
if one is always reluctant to keep animals
far from the mouth for every single meal.

[532] If you are not living
in the here and now,
you are lost in
another space and time.

[533] As long as you mistaken learning,
thinking and speaking about something
as somewhat actualising it,
you will never truly accomplish it.

[534] Not being attached to one’s suffering
by realisation of its unsubstantiality
to liberate oneself is wisdom.

Not being attached to one’s liberation
by realisation of its ungraspability
to liberate others is compassion.

[535] No one really mindfully wants to become an alcoholic
but one needs to not want to remain one
when one has nevertheless unmindfully become one.

Alcoholism often indirectly arises 
from ‘innocent’ social-drinking initially,
which is why abstaining from the very first drop is the best.

[536] The most dangerous drinkers
are not those who do not know how to drink,
but those who assume they can drink much,
while not knowing when the next drop
happens to be one drop too many.

The safest are the non-drinkers
who do not wish to learn how to drink,
and do not assume they can drink even a little,
while seeing the first drop
to already be one drop too many.

[537] Fame not directly used
to influence more to do good
is fame underused.

Fame indirectly used
to influence more to do evil
is fame misused.

[538] There must be something very wrong
if I have much to repent,
as it means I am thoroughly unenlightened,
with many misgivings recognised.

There must be something more wrong
if I have ‘nothing’ to repent,
as it means I am thoroughly unenlightened
of many misgivings unrecognised.

[539] If you have a worthy goal,
all that is needed
is diligent skilful means to reach it.

If you have become disheartened,
all that is needed
is to remember it is a worthy goal.

[540] Doing the needless
is often
doing the harmful.
