Stonepeace (541-550)

[541] The unmindful confuse wants as needs.
The mindful differentiate wants from needs.

[542] When we learn none of the Dharma,
we are unfocused
(due to having no direction).

When we learn some of the Dharma,
we are focused
(due to having some direction).

When we learn more of the Dharma,
we are unfocused
(due to having many directions).

When we learn even more of the Dharma,
we are focused
(due to having a clear direction).

[543] True respect arises
from seeing what is worthy in substance,
not from seeing who is high in status.

[544] Seeking to forgive only
is as if you are already perfect.
Seeking forgiveness too,
is part of the path to be perfect.

[545] Despite many possibilities
of various paths to liberation,
there is always one with greatest practicality
for every one person.

[546] Form is emptiness,
‘zero’ in terms of absolute absence
of non-change (and self)
in all mind and matter.

Emptiness is form,
‘infinity’ in terms of relative presence
of all mind and matter
as constant change (and non-self).

The Perfection of Wisdom
is to know and see the Middle Path between,
to function with balanced and thus
right understanding of form and emptiness.

All mind and matter
is neither nothingness nor everything-ness.
All mind and matter
is but changing-ness.

[547] There are two kinds of resonance with the Dharma.

The first is major resonance,
when its relevance is more fully realised
as one is already quite aligned with it.

The second is minor resonance,
when its relevance is less fully realised
as one has to further align with it.

[548] If reluctance to purify oneself is
resistance against one’s true
and pure Buddha-nature,
why not practise the Dharma gladly instead?

[549] As you can only have one thought in each moment,
you only have to take care of your mind in this moment.
This is how mindfulness is practised from moment to moment,
for all moments.

[550] Conscience can only sleep.
Conscience can never die.
Conscience can always awaken.
