[591] Every fight with an external enemy
is also an inner battle with oneself.
[592] Commitment should limit physical lust to one’s partner
but not spiritual love for all beings.
[593] The first prayer, before asking others to help oneself,
is to urge oneself to help oneself and others.
[594] Think, speak and act mindfully –
as all intentional thoughts,
words and deeds plant seeds that bear fruits
when conditions are presents.
[595] Your body and mind
is what you physically and mentally consume –
with more or less kindness and wisdom.
[596] If children’s stories
are of loving relationships with animals,
why should we grow up to be their horror stories?
[597] 杀人放火是坏人。
不杀人放火是普通人。
救人救火是好人。
[598] Unless we happen to encounter answers to the unasked,
the answers we get are limited by the questions we ask.
[599] A sutra appears too simple to us
if we are too shallow,
as we miss its profundity.
A sutra appears too profound to us
if we are too convoluted,
as we miss its simplicity.
[600] If we do not wish stronger beings to overpower and exploit us in the slightest way,
why can we imagine weaker beings such as animals are fine
with being exploited their entire lives for their produce,
before being slaughtered for our consumption?
