Birth in the heavens might be supremely hedonistic.
Birth in the hells might be supremely ascetic.
Birth in the Pure Lands is supremely the Middle Way.

For self-liberation,
it is a fault not to address one’s faults.
For others’ liberation,
it is a fault not to address their faults.

Without the marriage
of compassion and wisdom,
there are no skilful means.

To take the Threefold Refuge
unmindfully or insincerely
is to only create an imprint with little impact.

True renunciation is
to let go of attachment, aversion and delusion;
not anything else.

If there is an independent creator of everyone,
this would be the one responsible for everyone,
instead of anyone else, who never asked to be created.

If Dharma practice is
for becoming ‘nothing’,
or it would be nothing helpful.

The small-minded fail to appreciate
the vast skilful means of the Buddha –
while they cling to only one means,
or even reject all of them.

Sometimes the disciple bows to the master;
sometimes the master bows to the disciple.
A master who cannot bow to his disciple cannot bow to the Buddha.
Sometimes the master and disciple bow together to the Buddha.

How can we wish for world peace
for all our lives,
while we wish to feed on victims of violence
for all our lives?
