Sincerity

SINCERITY: Depending on how the house door is knocked, or how the doorbell is rung, I respond accordingly with my enthusiasm to open it. The super sincere will ring the bell a few times in a normal rate, followed by clear short knocks in case the bell is not heard. This is usually the deliveryman, who wants to do his job swiftly, without being rude. Hearing this, I match his enthusiasm, to open, greet, and get my stuff. The direct opposite will knock too softly and briefly, or even skip the bell…

This is the not so sincere salesman, who is not sure someone is in, not sure someone will answer the door, and even possibly not sure he is in the right line of work. Hearing this, I take my time to saunter over to take a peek through the peephole. By the time I get there, the person is usually gone, or at the opposite apartment repeating his ‘pitch’. The tricky part is when the door is knocked or the bell is rung in a kind of in-between way. How do I respond in a semi-sincere way?
