His outstretched, faced-up right palm appears to lovingly and welcomingly invite us to seek refuge in him, to hold his “helping hand” and be saved from our samsaric existence. Beautiful =]
This series of pix were snapped at 佛牙寺 (Buddha Tooth Relic Temple). Picture-taking is allowed but without flash. A gallery of these pictures will be up soon… well, when i have the time to put it up 😆
Photography is one way to urge people to see things from alternative points of view… things or perspectives otherwise missed by cursory glances.
Notice the first picture looks typical, but the second is really the same subject, but in a more intriguing manner!
Looking through the objective lens from various angles helps us see more at times (The Buddha image looked ‘typical’ from afar… till I went up close to search for unique angles to snap it.) 😉
I am really enjoying your latest ‘photojournal series’. One that makes a deep impression being this one. And the one of Kuan Yin by Feng Zi Kai. May i know where did you come across that drawing? Thanks for the sharings. Hope to see upcoming entries on the Qing Zhou Buddha at the Peranakan Museum.
Thanks for finding the series interesting :-] But really, it’s possible b’cos the artists who created the images were inspired. i merely snapped them from less common angles.
The FZK picture can be seen in an opened book on the second floor of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, just before the entrance to the gift shop.
About the Qingzhou Buddha/Bodhisattva images, I would love to snap them too… but photography isn’t allowed 🙁 So, you’ll have to make a personal visit. But it’s really worth it – being able to appreciate those ancient yet timeless smiles of serenity and kindness upclose. Don’t miss it! ^_^
