Brace! Brace! Brace!

One who braces for the hard knocks of life
will find them less shocking and painful.
Not bracing for reality is to be attached to fantasy.

During naval exercises, sometimes there is this announcement over the broadcast system to simulate incoming missile attacks:

Brace!
Brace!
Brace!

We’re expected to hold on to something steady then, in anticipation of sudden pitching and rolling of the ship. It just struck me that it’s one of the best accidental haikus I had ever come across. It’s the briefest too, with just  three syllables, while having a very clear, compassionate and wise message! What do you brace yourself upon? What is your refuge? The unshakable Dharma I hope.
