From ‘Marvel 1602: New World’ by Greg Pak and Greg Tocchinni:
King James: ‘I grant indeed that a wicked King is sent by God for a curse to his people and a plague for their sins; but is it lawful for them to shake off that curse, which God hath laid on them? That I deny.’ Do you have all that, David?
David: ‘Tis perfect as you have spoken it. For as to dispute what God may do is blasphemy, ’tis sedition to dispute what a King may do in the height of his power.
Ascribing unquestionable godly powers to unenlightened humans is foolish. As much as I didn’t understand the belief that kings and emperors are godsent, after coming across the above, I understood why they would want to keep up with the illusion to justify, maintain and expand their tyrannical power. Even though an evil king is clearly no spokesperson for anyone good and divine, that a people have a bad ruler is their collective karma at play. This is not to say they should be political apathetic though, because governments are to serve the people and they should be overthrown when unreasonable. Collective karma can transform collective karma.
