Give the wise access to the net,

Ignorant of Ignorance

How very well said……my sentiments exactly.
Our aimless surfing brings about needless agitation of the mind, probably resulting in more desires and greed. And since these informations are easily a click away, we are just a click away from more attachments, arguments, greed, etc., if we are not aware.
How many of us unmindfully surf during our spare time for things that are empty and without meaning eventually.
I am guilty of the above and have included “wisdom” websites under my favourites to surf more meaningfully
sometimes.
In our stressful lives, we may need to surf as a form of diversion but maybe we should just reflect a little on what the internet can and cannot do.
Wishing everyone happy and meaningful surfing!

With the availability of the net, it struck me that we no longer have reasons to to be ignorant about stuff. But the catch is that many are still ignorant about how to find (and share) the right stuff online!
:-O
Good points .
But bro shian sometimes I try to clearify the correct teaching with friends on fb , they think I am tense up with the issue …Perhaps to them it seems not a big deal , for me I do find it serious .
I also dun want to ve any negative feelings on our friendship so just let it go ? 88)
I think you can prevent tension by saying your piece while adding smileys at the end? (Some stuff is better discussed in person though, because online text can be misread in terms of imagined tone.) Amituofo

Hi,
The internet can be a double-edged sword just like anything we feel could be used meaningfully in our lives.
However, nowadays many people surf the net aimlessly because they do not know how to understand their purpose in life. I am sure if the person is spiritually aware, then actually the internet surfing is really not necessary.
I have taken up the challenge of going for a retreat to study with teachers overseas and we are not allowed to have access to mobile phones and the internet. We go back to basics which is the requirement of a simple life.
When we want to really connect with our family or friends, we only visit the internet cafe with the permission of our teachers.
After this particular retreat, I realize that we do not need all these modern gadgets at all. They are definitely too convenient to use and many are also addicted to it to fill the empty void within them.
This is the time to use one’s discernment and perhaps to challenge oneself to not have access to the net for one day or one week. The peace of mind will come if you persist and you will look for more authentic experiences in the real life.
Ultimately the cyber world is full of falsehood and many are ignorant of it. Unless we know how to see and be aware of the addictive nature of the internet, we shall not be totally liberated from the stresses it could bring to our mind and practice of mindfulness.
As such, I will think that if you feel you can use the net within your control, its fine. And it is a great tool to get access to information which you really want. However, reflect the reason why you use the net too often and you will begin to relish the beauty of life and not get bogged down by the cyberworld anymore.
One of my masters ever told me that all these modern technology is there for convenience but it will not change much of the quality of your life if you do not have any access to it. But instead you learn to live a much simpler life and to get in touch with the real beauty in nature and people around us as a community.
As such, I am also going to take a net “break” because its really sapping too much energies and they could certainly be challelled to more worth while activities.
Hope my comments are helpful because this is the insight I have received while I was surfing on the net too often and came to be aware that its sometimes a waste of our precious time which can be used for meditation especially. 🙂
With blessings and love to all in this community and be use our power of mindfulness to always reflect on our actions.

Thank you for sharing, Merlinda!
Random net surfing is like window-shopping – but by looking in only one ‘window’.
Purposeful surfing is simply shopping for what’s needed.
