From ‘Grimmer Tales: A Wicked Collection of Happily Never After Stories’ by Erik Bergstrom, is ‘The Ugly Truth’, which I think is the best in the book –
‘There once was an ugly duckling.
None of the other ducks would hang out with him.
One day the duckling changed into a beautiful swan!
Turns out that he’s still pretty dull.
Ducks aren’t as superficial as you might think.’
(As the others still would not hang out with him!)
My comments:
It is indeed but a fairy tale
that improvement in looks alone will change your life,
because life is not a superficial beauty contest,
while true beauty is not necessarily seen on one’s form,
but through one’s beautiful thoughts manifested in word and deed –
in terms of compassion and wisdom.
Moral of the story:
While most of us wish to be sophisticated and beautiful swans,
in the case that we can’t have the best of both worlds,
it is better to be a sophisticated duck
that to be a superficial swan!
