I Did It My Way

Question: Is it really necessary to embrace a religion to become enlightened, or can it be done by personal understanding? I only believe in myself.
Answer: Yes, it can be done by oneself. In fact, it is the only way it can be done. It was what the Buddha did – in what Buddhists see to be a perfect way. Out of compassion, he shared with us how he did it! No harm testing the path proposed by him! The Buddha agrees that we must experience the truth ourselves too. In this sense, it’s about believing in ourselves too.

  1. How to differentiate 自我 and 本性?
More often than not, “my way” is just a simpler way, but not necessary the right way…

  2. The path to enlightenment whether it’s my way or your way. Our only chance is to follow the best way as demonstrated by those who made it. The most important thing is to go all the way in what we do and not halfway. Or else there is no way we can be on our way to the shores eternal liberation. A man may learn many ways but when on a journey, we must remember we only have a pair of legs that can only be on one way at any one time. Stay focus on the way and like a concentrated laser we can cut through any obstacles.

Let us be on the way and may we help one another along the way.

Your way. My way. Which way is the right way? Before we even decide, maybe we should ask ourselves if we are even heading the same way.

  3. The 1st is ego (selfish) and the 2nd is our buddha nature which is crowded by delusions. Hence we have to practise hard to uncover our innate nature through right practice and teachers. 🙂

  4. actually, what I meant was that there are many people and many times when we mixed 自我 and 本性 together.

“…we must remember we only have a pair of legs that can only be on one way at any one time.”
Reminds me of a saying that, there are so many doorways that lead to enlightenment. Instead of wasting one’s time opening and analysizing each and every door, it’s better to focus and practise on just one.
Maybe just like there’s so many ways of travelling from here to there, by plane, by coach, by car, by boat etc. But no one can travel the journey for you.
