Simple but good reality check, these lines from Sheryl Crow’s ‘If It Makes You Happy’:
If it makes you happy
It can’t be that badIf it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad?
Most of us in Samsara are not really happy,
while imagining we are,
or that are going to be –
without Dharma practice!
some say happiness comes from making others happy and sadness and stress comes from considering your own happiness – so Sheryl crow’s samsaric confusion is probably true – not that bad but sad!
Forrest Gump once said that stupid is as stupid does. If that’s true then happy is as happy does. The only time when one does a happy thing yet feel not happy is becos one does it with an unhappy heart. Our mind and heart sometimes say different things. The minds may reason that it is logically a happy thing to do but the heart feels otherwise.
Out body or actions sometimes act along with our heart and sometimes with our mind and sometimes both. It is always changing and that’s what make life interesting. When the heart has not doubts and the mind is sharp and clear, that’s the time bliss is felt.
