How Lovely Are You?

Please don’t mistaken you are lovely
because you think you have lovely hair,
for hair is but dead cells.

Please don’t mistaken you are lovely
because you think you have lovely skin,
for skin is but skin-deep.

Please don’t mistaken you are lovely
because you think you have lovely eyes,
for eyes are but two slimy balls.

Please don’t mistaken you are lovely
because you think you have lovely lips,
for lips are but rawer skin.

Please don’t mistaken you are lovely
because you think you have a lovely shape,
for they are only shapeshifting shapes.

Please don’t mistaken that loveliness is in form,
because it lies in the beautiful states of mind,
of generosity, patience, forgiveness, compassion, wisdom…

Please remember that what gives us character
is how we carry ourselves,
not the body parts we carry.
