If you keep being defensive for all your faults, to the extent of being offensive by focusing on pointing out the faults of those who pointed out your faults, you will never improve yourself. When defensiveness becomes more and more instinctive and habitual, you risk becoming more and more blind to your faults. Finally, you might become the seemingly only ‘perfect’ person in the world, with the rest of the world seemingly letting you down, when it is you who continually let yourself and others down.
