Whether you believe there is inherent fairness in the universe and your life or not, it is imperative to believe it is worth being fair and standing up for fairness. If you prefer not being fair, you will be increasing unfairness in this world, which inevitably rebounds to you eventually, making you suffer from it too.
If you prefer bowing to unfairness, you will be supporting unfairness in this world, helping it to perpetuate, which also inevitably affects you eventually. Thus, even if you believe apparent unfairness is really fair due to karma, it still makes sense to neither be unfair nor to support the unfair. Otherwise, you will just create more negative karma to experience more unfairness, fairly.
