How things got so bad,
that everyone seemed
to openly see the widespread corruption 
with two open eyes,

was that a few crucial ones first saw it,
but decided to close one eye
and eventually both eyes,
to become ‘blind’ to it,
which let it spread,
including to and through themselves.
