‘The Path’ of ‘Seeing Deep’

Bodhicitta (Productions) has just released a compilation of their ‘greatest hits’ for free distribution, and will be giving a free anniversary performance (as above) soon. One of the group members passed me a copy of the CD recently, reminding me that I contributed lyrics to a couple of their songs years ago, when they were short of English ones. Below are the lyrics, which were edited slightly to amend for mistakes in the original wording! They were actually adapted from early TheDailyEnlightenment articles. (I heard from Vic that the Horse Songalready has music added to it by another Buddhist band. Hope it makes it to a CD version soon. I have yet to hear it though.)

The Path

A joyous thing happened on my way to enlightenment.
I discovered I’ll be enlightened as long as I walk the path steadily.
So the goal itself somehow became less of a fuss.

As I walk and walk,
I see the others around me
Who have yet to see this great truth –

That one who walks the path steadily will reach the goal that is liberation.
So I started helping them see this,
All this while as I was walking on and on.

Nearing enlightenment while helping and helping,
More and more join me on this path.
More and more help and help as they walk and walk,
Bringing more and more to walk towards enlightenment.

Then I realised we have all become Bodhisattvas.
In the glorious company of Bodhisattvas,
Being Bodhisattvas to one another.

See Deep

See
See deep
See deep into the ugliest thing you ever laid your eyes upon

See do deep that you realise that it’s the ugliest thing not because of itself
See till you realise that it reveals there is ugliness in your mind
That the ugliness exists only in your mind

Because ugliness is an illusion, so is beauty
Cling not to the beautiful
Let not the ugly be outcast

Peace is already here if we only see deep enough
Things are just as they are
Beyond ugliness or beauty

How deep your enlightenment is
Is how deep you see this truth
Isn’t that wonderful?
