I reviewed Coldplay’s ‘Strawberry Swing’ (from 2008’s bestselling album ‘Viva La Vida) before. (See first link below.) However, while watching its recently launched video (which is very delightfully whimsical), I had another take on the chorus.
Now the sky could be blue
I don’t mind
Without you
It’s a waste of time…
Could be blue
Could be grey
Without you
I’m just miles away
We tend to see ‘you’ above as someone else – the one we are pining to be with. However, even if you are with that person, enjoying the sky as it is would still be impossible ‘without you’ living in the moment. In fact, if we are overly enraptured with the one we are with, we miss the sky. Why not enjoy the sky – together – whoever you are with?
Love doesn’t require two people look at each other,
but that they look together in the same direction.– Antoine de Saint Exupery
Why not enjoy the sky ‘with you’ – even when alone? If ‘you’ are miles away from wherever you are, ‘it’s a waste of time’… a waste of life.
