There is No Almighty Good Creator God

A friend confessed that he believes in the Buddhist teachings,
while believing there is a creator God (which clashes with Buddhist teachings),
and added that he has the tendency to have negative thoughts.

This was my reply:

It’s very simple –
if there is an almighty good creator God,
he would not create you with the tendency
to have a single negative thought.
But since this is not so, there is no almighty good creator God.

  1. Hi πŸ™‚
Its great that you know lots of examples and complex theories. But none of this really matters, because what’s most important now, this present time. What can we do to help ourselves and others to understand the Truth, so we stop committing sins and errors.

We need to learn how to live our lives according to the Heavenly Truth or Buddhism’s 5 precepts or the Bible’s 10 commandants etc. Its all the same, but seen from a different angle.
Eg. Confucius talks of Benevolence, Gautama Buddha talks of compassion, Jesus talks of Love.

Thats enough from me on this topic. I wish you all well on your path of cultivation and learning. And thankyou for sharing your understanding aswell πŸ™‚

    Kind regards.

  2. All religions teach us to be good. But to what stage one wants to evolve is one’s choice. If one want to go to higher realms. Buddhism and other religions have paths leading them there. But to be awaken and free from samsara, only the Buddha has walked this path. Becos only freedom from jealousy, anger, pride and ignorance is the real freedom from samsara. If not we will still be bound to celestial politics of another level as long as beings in these worlds have those unwholesome traits. Obviously any being with ego, anger, jealousy, pride and desire and inability to overcome it will have to serve the purpose of these kleshas or act it out to fulfill whatever these traits want them to do hereby leading to betrayal and rebellion even in heavenly realms. Is it not a surprise to all that of all beings to betray god, the theist was the one who started it? When the Buddha gained enlightenment, people wanted to confer him the title of god. But freedom is more valuable than a title that would stroke our egos. In Buddhist scriptures, the Buddha actually met the “father” in his meditation. If the Buddha accepted the father, I am sure we will be the eldest son of this father Buddhism has accepted 3000’yrs ago.

All sentient beings can shine. All sentient being can become buddhas. The Buddha wants you to shine. The human body is the best vehicle to Buddhahood. May all beings bring light to this world and not darkness.

  3. 1. George should read the links posted in the Kespon’s comments, to see that Buddhism does not subscribe to a God-belief for sound reasons. If there is a fair creator God, there would be no single child ‘created’ ill – and all children would be perfect in character.

    2. Buddhists don’t blame a fictitious creator God for suffering, simply because there is no such being.

    3. On where blessings come from, see http://thedailyenlightenment.com/2011/03/what-does-it-mean-to-be-blessed

    4. Your comments seem similar to Yiguandao beliefs. Here is an article on why it is not Buddhism: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Amituofo/message/48

    5. The Buddha never blamed ‘God’ for anything, but denounced his existence due to the truths in the verses – which point to self-responsibility.

    6. If Yiguandao folks study the Diamond Sutra, Bible, Koran and Daodejing in detail, they will realise there are deep fundamental differences; not just some similarities. Yiguandao is known for cherry-picking and twisting to force-fit religious ideas. Not all religions are the same: http://thedailyenlightenment.com/2010/12/should-we-compare-religions

    7. I’m vegan. Yiguandao folks eat eggs. Here is the problem with eggs: http://thedailyenlightenment.com/2011/01/are-eggs-considered-vegetarian

    8. The Buddhist 5 precepts are not exactly the same as the Ten Commandments. For instance, the latter does not say it is wrong to kill animals.

    9. The ‘love’ talked about by Jesus according to the Bible is different from Buddhism as it demands faith in a non-existent creator God (Yiguandao calls her Laomu, to be reached through chanting ‘Wu-tai-fo-mi-le’ only – which Buddhism doesn’t subscribe to either.) Confucian benevolence is also different as it does not extend to animals.

    10. The Buddha is ‘Teacher of humans and gods’ – greater than all gods, including the ones who assumed they created the universe. (See Kespon’s link for this)

  4. Hi Atheius, can you clarify further on this part of your sharing? I don’t quite understand what you mean:

” Is it not a surprise to all that of all beings to betray god, the theist was the one who started it? When the Buddha gained enlightenment, people wanted to confer him the title of god. But freedom is more valuable than a title that would stroke our egos. In Buddhist scriptures, the Buddha actually met the Ò€œfatherÒ€ in his meditation. If the Buddha accepted the father, I am sure we will be the eldest son of this father Buddhism has accepted 3000Ò€²yrs ago.”

    Thanks!

  5. Wasn’t lucifer and the rest of his fallen henchmen angels before their rebellion and betrayal? If angels are not theistic believers of theism, in a god they so believe, who then were they serving since the beginning of time? From time to time, other religions have been branded as infidels or devil worshippers. The truth is the devil may just be in your own backyard. Therefore look before one cast the first stone.

All things are empty before they are full. From a white empty canvas, and from it millions of expressions of art all construed from the blueprints of our minds. The architect of samsara. Whether the art form expresses horror, gore, peace, beauty depends on the state of mind we wish to express on the canvas. It is precisely the state of our minds that bring us heaven or hell and ultimately liberation and eternal freedom.

There is no creator god but all sentient beings are the creators of their own destinies. Creativity is no a exclusive right. Even an ant can create. In the same way, if humanity do not take the initiative to create opportunities to spread their religions, they do not build congregation nor build places of worships to assemble people, they do nothing. Who then is really saving you? How then can salvation take place? If religions are left to die a natural death, who really saves? Nobody but you. You are saving yourself by doing all you can to faciliate all these things and make them happen. So the ideology of saving ourselves in Buddhism is not inaccurate but very accurate.

One distinctive difference in Buddhism is that we dun operate like a country club membership or insurance policy. The Buddha saves at all times whether u r god or devil, male or female, regardless of race, language and religions. Our work of salvation is concentrated on the six realms. Take for example, animals liberation or even reciting certain sutras to animals. The animals are not buddhists or humans. But one such act can either send these animals to a better realm in their next life leading to liberation or liberate them fo good. It is from these unconditional acts that we can change others conditions for better rebirth in the absence of whether they are believers or not. Why do we need to spread Buddhism. So that it can go on saving people through ensuring the survival of its knowledge.

The way to liberation is only through practice, wisdom and faith. The true measure of one’s faith can only be through practice. If u believe but not practice, u r only a partial believer if not what then is stopping one from practicing? While there maybe others who expound grace above practice becos no matter how much one do, one cannot be perfect. If so, then we shouldn’t be afraid of being judged nor is there a need for it. Judgement only make sense becos deeds matter. A deed that does not accompany the heart will always rear it’s ugly head one day. Like an archer, we only hit where we want to aim. I do not see how not practicing what we believe make sense for it is a already a contradiction on it’s own. All in all. Deeds matter but it must always be in unison of both the heart and mind. A willing heart maybe betrayed by an unwilling mind and vice versa. At the end of the day, an imperfect and flawd man plagued by many obstacles yet do not stop believing in doing good is more praiseworthy than a perfect god who cannot do as well with the same imperfections. We are all consciousness waiting to evolve. Let’s not undermine the potential of our consciousness under those who are more evolved than us. Evolution is your right but regression is you choice.
