One who does nothing
to to save others
from hot-blooded monsters
might be a cold-hearted monster.

What does not happen now
is not karmically meant to now.
What does happen now
does not determine your response now.

Don’t be close
to the brightness of light;
yet in the darkness of backlight.

佛魔偈
师重戒法，
可视如佛。
师轻戒法，
可视如魔。
Verse On Buddhas Vs Maras
Teachers who value the Precepts and Dharma,
can be seen to be like ‘Buddhas’.
Teachers who neglect the Precepts and Dharma,
can be seen to be like ‘Maras’.

Just because a perception
is more popular
does not make it more true.
(E.g. All who ‘see’ the Earth to be flat are wrong.)

All it takes is another’s
one non-racist act of compassion
to realise the delusion of racism.

戒法偈
佛说戒法，
佛子皆依。
佛说戒法，
魔子皆弃。
Verse On Discipline & Dharma
Of the Buddha’s spoken Discipline (Precepts) and Dharma (teachings),
disciples of the Buddha all accord with them.
Of the Buddha’s spoken Discipline (Precepts) and Dharma (teachings),
disciples of Mara all abandon them.

正师偈
清净上师，
皆依本师。
违本之师,
皆名邪师。
Verse On Right Teachers
Pure teachers (gurus)
all accord with our fundamental teacher (Sakyamuni Buddha’s teachings).
‘Teachers’ who go against our fundamental teacher
are all named as evil teachers.

戒净法正，
生正定慧。
戒破法末，
无正定慧。
Verse On Pure Precepts
With precepts pure, the Dharma is right,
giving rise to right concentration and wisdom.
With precepts broken, the Dharma is ended,
not giving rise to right concentration and wisdom.

三师偈
四众须知；
以佛为师；
以戒为师；
以法为师。
Verse On Three Teachers
The Four Assemblies must know, that it is
With the Buddha as our teacher;
With the Precepts as our teacher;
With the Dharma as our teacher.
(四众: 比丘，比丘尼，优婆塞，与优婆夷
Four Assemblies: Buddhist monks, nuns, laymen and laywomen)
